2014 MTV EMA DELIVERS RECORD RATINGS FOR 20th ANNIVERSARY

The 2014 MTV EMA
on Sunday, 9 November, 2014, was indeed the world's biggest night in music, and the most widely distributed show in MTV EMA history – airing in more than 160 countries and territories, including a debut on Channel 5 and a special U.S. broadcast featuring a live pre-show in Miami.
Across the 21 markets where audience information is already available, the show's reach and ratings for all individuals grew by 15 percent and 17 percent respectively vs. the previous year. Within this there were significant ratings spikes in the UK, Italy, Poland, Finland, South Africa and the Philippines. In the UK (this year's host market), more than 2.3 million
viewers tuned into Channel 5 and MTV.
On the digital front, overall visits to the MTV EMA site were up seven percent and page views increased 63 percent.
There was massive growth from MTV EMA apps
, which included an Android app for the first time in addition to the iOS version, with the total number of downloads increasing 185 percent year over year
. The level of traffic coming from mobile and tablets was also up significantly (32 percent) and this year for the first time, accounted for over half of all visitors to the Web site.
Socially, the show was a huge success with #EMA2014 trending #1 worldwide.
The MTV EMAs ranked as the #1 most social US show of the week
with 13.6 million tweets
the evening it aired, representing a whopping 656 percent increase

generated a record-breaking level of social conversation with 389 million mentions across platforms
(including hashtag votes for international categories), which is up 572 percent vs. last year

Viewers who tuned in were treated to a stand-out performance by 2014 MTV EMA
host Nicki Minaj
, who also walked away with the prize for "Best Hip Hop Act." One Direction
took home three awards, while Ariana Grande
, Katy Perry
and 5 Seconds of Summer
all won two awards each.

was broadcast on MTV channels around the world Sunday, November 9th at 9:00PM CET* from The SSE Hydro in Glasgow.
